NPN History
In the months following Hurricane Katrina, the Neighborhoods Partnership Network emerged as a series of meetings between neighborhood groups. It became evident in those early days that a collaborative space for neighborhoods was necessary to maximize the potential of community rebuilding efforts in New Orleans. Since the summer of 2006, NPN’s spirit of transparency and neighborhood collaboration has strengthened New Orleans communities.
We now host monthly forums, workshops, and trainings for neighborhood activists and leaders; we publish a monthly community newspaper aptly titled, ‘The Trumpet,’ for its role as an amplifier of neighborhood voices, and launched our Neighborhood Liaisons outreach program that connects NPN staff with neighborhood groups. In addition, our Government and Institutional Liaison connects neighborhoods with government and nonprofit agency information.
