Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO)/ Hispanic Apostolate Community Services (HACS), in collaboration with the Office of Catholic Schools, offers various social services to the Hispanic population of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. Services include free legal consultation regarding immigration, workers rights, and employment assistance. This program offers English as a Second Language (ESL) and citizenship classes to adult learners, through a Civic/EL grant from the Louisiana Department of Education. Classes are held in collaboration with different organizations at various locations throughout the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. Through the work of our community volunteers, interns and service-learning students from Tulane, we are able to reach over 500 adults a semester in the community who are trying to learn English. Classes follow a state-regulated curriculum that involves five levels of ability.
