First-time homebuyer training in the St. Roch neighborhood

Event Description

The Faubourg St. Roch Improvement Association is partnering with Rebuilding Together New Orleans and several local and national organizations to offer Homeownership Education and Counseling Classes to interested buyers in the St. Roch neighborhood. Trainings will offer an overview of the home purchasing process to prospective first-time homebuyers so that they may gain financial independence and build equity.

These classes train and empower residents to improve their lives through homeownership and are provided by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater New Orleans, and made possible through funding from NeighborWorks America. The First Pilgrim Baptist Church generously provided space for the classes free of charge.

There are currently over 500 blighted or abandoned properties in St. Roch that will be available at affordable prices to first-time homebuyers. Students who complete the 12-Hour Homebuyer Class may be eligible for $50,000-$65,000 of Soft Second Mortgage Funds.

The next session will be held Tuesdays & Thursdays, January 13, 15, 20 and 22, 2009 from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at the First Pilgrim Baptist Church, located at 1234 Arts Street. Courses will also be held throughout the spring. For registration information, please call 504-948-0808.
