A "program" describes an issue that this neighborhood addresses by having a committee, task force or events to focus on this area of concern.

Community Outreach

Program Description

Community Outreach, led by Gloria DeCuir-Robert, coordinates FGNA activities with community entities that assist the neighborhood in reaching its goals. We are working with the Dillard University CDC and DSCEJ, Parkway Partners, levees.org., GCIA, etal. We also partner with the Burbank Gardens Neighborhod Assn, which is part of City Planning’s “St. Anthony” Neighborhood.

FGNA-NONPACC

Program Description

FGNA CrimeWatch committee members meet with the 3rd Police District NONPACC to review crime potential, statistics, solutions. Goal is to establish a Neighborhood Watch Program in FGNA. Committee reps: Jeanne Eddington, Carmen Owens, Sandy Duckworth, Richard Smith

Free curbside trees...sign up at FGNA monthly meeting.

Program Description

FGNA residents may sign-up for free curbside trees beginning at the Aug. 28th neighborhood meeting. Trees to be available after Oct.1, 2008. This activity is a lottery in conjunction with the Burbank Gardens Neighborhood Assn. Those members who received trees in a previous lottery may sign-up again but will be considered AFTER new signees.

Neighborhood Surveying to Reduce Blight

Program Description

Organic program to determine and reduce blight; to develop a continuously updated map of property status in OUR neighborhood. This project method was first introduced to FGNA by Dr. Quintus Jett of Tucks U. (Dartmouth); currently new profiles/maps used by Lakeview Beacon of Hope are utilized. The info obtained may be used to expedite the efforts of the city’s code enforcement staff to eliminate blight, and will assist in defining those programs/resources that best suit the recovery and development goals of Filmore Gardens.

Sandy and Esther Friedman Memorial Community Garden

Program Description

Community garden developed by Kelley Williams of Filmore Gardens, dedicated to former residents, Esther and Sandy Freidman.
Youth in the neighborhood learn horticultural skills and assist with garden work. Vegetable, herb, flower beds.

Voter Registration/Election Info

Program Description
